People have become increasingly aware that China has great aspiration of transforming itself from a global manufacture powerhouse into an innovation-driven enterprise. "Internet of Things" has been identified as one of national interested areas to push the innovation effort. Working with its sister parks within Wuxi, Z-Park Wuxi uniquely positioned itself to help high tech firms and entrepreneurs to launch their "Internet of Things" ventures in China. At the same time, with all three major carriers in China - China Telecom, China Mobile and China Unicom opening offices here, mobile developers and firms could use Z-Park Wuxi as a launch pad to China market.
Across the Pacific Ocean, the US wireless industry is undergoing a deep transformation itself with the introduction of more advanced mobile platforms, an influx of powerful smart phones, an accelerated roll out of 4G networks by carriers and more mobile users eager to take advantage of new applications. The second part of this seminar, one of NECINA Wireless SIG series, will present Handheld Devices and Mobile Applications and Introduction to Verizon Verizon Developer Community.

With the fierce competition of various handheld/mobile devices in the market, there are only a few running on the front row, including both long time champions and soon-to-be winners. Baoqing Ye will give an introduction of those mobile devices particularly on smart phones and tablets, and current market trends. To close on open source platforms, she'll demonstrate android development environment and live applications.

Mr. Zhongcheng Gao, VP of Z-Park Wuxi
Dr. Baoqing Ye, currently Sr. Software Engineer and System Architect at Product Design and Development Division of Verizon Information Technology Organization, is responsible for the design and development of mobile services and applications. She previously served as Distinguished Member of Technical Staff at various divisions within Verizon Technology Organization, including Network Security, Network Architecture, Network Design & Integration. Baoqing received her MS and PhD in Computer Engineering from Syracuse University.
Mr. Larry Rau jointed Verizon wireless in 2009 as a director managing developer community, earlier he co-founded SavaJe technology and served as CTO in Sun' s consumer solutions division.
Mr. Nick Katis is current in Verizon Wireless' application ecosystem group. Nick has over 12 years of experience driving the definition, development and launch of innovative new consumer products in the wireless industry.

Joel L. Singer, Managing Partner, Boston Digital Ventures
Joel L. Singer is an adjunct professor at the International Business School at Brandeis University. Mr. Singer is the managing partner of Boston Digital Ventures, which focuses on clean / green technology solutions (www.boston-digital.com). In addition, Mr. Singer currently serves on the boards of: Syntha Corporation, a developer of decision support software applications for optimizing power plant operations (www.syntha.com); Enercom Inc., a provider of energy conservation software and services to energy and water utilities (www.enercomusa.com); and National Integrated Employer Solutions LLC, a provider of HR and benefit administration services (www.nebsinc.com). His prior board activities include: the Center for Advancement of Energy Markets, a Washington, DC based think tank; and New Energy Capital LLC, a developer of renewable energy projects.
Over his career, Mr. Singer has held a variety of CEO positions: President and co-CEO of Bay State Gas / Northern Utilities, one of the largest gas utilities and energy providers in New England (nyse: BGC); CEO of Navigant Consulting's Energy & Water Business, one of the world's largest independent energy consulting firms (nyse: NCI); and CEO of Boston Digital LLC, a start-up software development firm.
Mr. Singer received his MBA degree with honors from the University of Houston, and received his BS in Mechanical Engineering with high honors from Michigan State University.
Ashishi Cowlagi, Manager, IBM Global Solutions
Ashishi Cowlagi is the Offering manager for the Government Industry Framework where his responsibilities span product/asset development, strategy, sales, marketing/PR, and business development for the Government Industry and the Smarter Cities space for IBM Software Group. Prior to this he was one of the funding members of the Industry Frameworks organization and drove go-to-market and marketing strategy, bringing together resources across IBM to support this new direction for IBM. He brings experience from a number of previous technical and business leadership roles within and outside of IBM.
Mr. Cowlagi served as the Chair for the Massachusetts Asian IBMers Network and IBM Diversity Network group for a number of years and currently serves on the board of the non-profit India Society Of Worcester.
Mark Yao, Research Scientist IBM T. J. Watson Research
Mark Yao leads IBM Research's technical effort in collaborating with the U.S. Department of Energy for the Gridwise project, a smart grid demonstration project in the Olympic Peninsula in the Pacific Northwest. Dr. Yao obtained his Ph.D. in Optoelectronics from the City University of New York, and had extensive experience in the telecommunication and networking industry.

Speaker Biographies:
Mr. Ed Pease is a member of Brown Rudnick's Corporate Department, and the co-chair of the Emerging Technologies practice. He practices in the areas of corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, securities laws, venture capital financing, licensing and strategic partnerships. In addition to his transactional experience, Mr. Pease has significant experience counseling early-stage, growth-oriented companies operating in emerging high technology industries and has frequently represented the venture capital investors investing in these enterprises. Mr. Pease has considerable experience representing public company clients in a broad range of matters ranging from compliance with ongoing reporting
requirements and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, to analyzing and implementing anti-takeover measures as well as a number of other matters affecting public companies and their officers and directors.
Ms. Jessica Collins is a member of Brown Rudnick's Corporate Department. She represents publicly traded corporations and domestic and international emerging growth companies, primarily in the medical device, high technology and semi conductor industries. Ms. Collins counsels clients on public and private offerings of debt and equity securities, securities law compliance matters, corporate governance issues and general corporate matters. Scott Centurino, CEO of Crimson Hexagon
Scott Centurino is a senior business and technology leader with a track record of developing teams that "get things done". Scott joined Crimson Hexagon with a wealth of operating experience, and a deep understanding of both professional services and product development in the software industry. He has a proven ability to quickly
understand complex business, technical, and organizational issues, and drive their resolution.
Most recently Scott was the Chief Operating Officer at mobile messaging solutions, Inc. (mms US), where he provided the overall direction for all day-to-day operating activities to optimize customer service and growth. Prior to joining mms, Scott was Vice President of Product at matchmine, a Web 2.0 media discovery and ad-targeting network. Previously, Scott was Vice President of Solutions Infrastructure at Burntsand Inc., a technology-based professional services firm operating from nine locations across the United States and Canada. While at Burntsand, he grew his practice from break-even to 25% margin on 50% revenue growth in two quarters. Earlier in his career, Scott held various technical and engineering roles building and web-enabling enterprise-scale business systems.
Scott holds a S.B. in Computer Science and Engineering, and a Master of Engineering in Computer Science (Systems and Architecture Concentration), both from MIT.
Jamie Pappas, Social Media Strategy Manager, EMC Corporation
Jamie is an Enterprise 2.0 and social media strategist, evangelist, and community manager at EMC Corporation, offering an excellent track record of proven leadership and subject matter expertise. She has a hand in developing and driving overall Enterprise 2.0 and social media strategy across the entire organization, identifying opportunities to integrate social media and community into the daily lives of employees, both internally as a team collaboration tool, and externally as a way to engage with customers, partners and prospects.
She has established a strategy for participation in various social sites such as Blogs, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Flickr, and LinkedIn, broadening EMC's footprint on these sites by bringing new ideas to the social media marketing program, maintaining relationships with industry bloggers and internal company contacts, and improving EMC's current marketing material by educating and supporting the use of video, photos, and other multimedia.
Jamie is a founding member of The 2.0 Adoption Council and Membership Director for The Social Media Club, Boston Chapter. She is also a proud member of The Community Roundtable, Forte Foundation, American Marketing Association, Boston Chapter, and the Project Management Institute.
Wei Pan, Human Dynamic Researcher, MIT Media Lab
Wei Pan is a Researcher in the Human Dynamics Group at MIT Media Lab. He obtained his B.Eng. degree in Computer Science from Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. He has also worked for Google R&D China for a year as well as a couple of start-ups.
Wei Pan's current research interests are computational social science and social network analysis. He builds mathematical models for human behaviors on online social networks and the mechanism for diffusion and influence between individuals. With other members in his group, Wei Pan won the DARPA 40th Anniversary of Internet Grand Challenge, in which the MIT team demonstrated that social media can be adopted to mobilize crowds in time-critical missions. Their success quickly attracts attention from all major media and government officials, and inspires researchers in sociology, economics and many different areas. His research is featured in a few mainstream media such as Technology Review.
Andrew Parker, Senior Associate, Spark Capital
Andrew Parker is a senior associate at Spark Capital. He joined the investment team in June of 2010. By training Andrew approaches early investing from an engineering and user design perspective. Andrew is an avid user of web services and loves being an alpha tester for new products. In consumer-facing web services, a clear value proposition for the end-user through good product design is essential for success, and Andrew's combination of professional and academic background is geared towards helping startups create value for their early users.
Andrew was a member of the investment team at Union Square Ventures for four years, first as an analyst and later as an associate. During that tenure, Andrew supported the partners as they developed their portfolio from 7 to 30 names, and sourced the investment opportunities in Heyzap and Foursquare.
Prior to Union Square Ventures, Andrew was a Producer at Homestead Technologies where he designed web interfaces, managed the realization of the designs through the dev-cycle, and conducted user experience testing. Prior to Homestead, he worked for Groupspace.org as a Developer on a web service for asynchronous online deliberation, built on the LAMP stack. A graduate from Stanford in 2005, Andrew received his B.S. in Symbolic Systems, which is a hybrid of Computer Science and Cognitive Psychology.

Ronnie Maffa, Vice President, IBM
Ronnie Maffa is the Vice President of Social Software development at Lotus, IBM Software Group. She is responsible for the product development of business ready social collaboration systems, including Lotus Quickr and Lotus Connections products. Mr. Huang Zexiong graduated from Nanjing University in 1981, and subsequently worked in the petro-chemical scientific academy of the head office of SINOPEC, whilst completing his dissertation and graduate studies towards obtaining a master's degree in chemical engineering. He joined the Patent & Trademark Law Office of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) in 1988, and remained in such office until July 2001.
He is one of the most experienced patent attorneys in the Boss & Young Beijing Office. He has obtained diverse patent law and attorney experience from a number of English and German patent offices, and is fluent in the English and German languages. To date, he has acted as attorney for more than 300 clients in over 2,000 cases involving domestic and international patent applications, and numerous matters concerning international patent cancellations and nullifications, patent-related analyses, as well as patent infringements and litigation. His clients include foreign and Chinese enterprises such as the Chinese Academy of Sciences, SINOPEC, the Beijing Institute of Clothing Technology, Exxon-Mobil Corporation, Dow Chemical Corporation, P&G Inc, Union Carbide Corporation, BASF AG, Hoechst AG, Cannon Inc, Kao Corporation, Novartis AG, and others. Dr. Dong Liu is a Senior Partner at Boss & Young Patent and Trademark Law Office in Beijing, China, leading the firm's Intellectual Property (IP) practice in medical device, bio-tech, clean-tech, and other emerging high-tech areas. He is also responsible for the firm's IP licensing and transaction service.
Dr. Liu's career stems from his dedication to the biomedical and pharmaceutical sectors working closely developing and implementing innovation process, invention harvesting, claim drafting, prosecution, litigation, and licensing in a global environment. Dr. Liu's influence in the industry is brought forward from expertise focused on IP from Canada, Denmark, United States and China.
Dr. Liu's past experience includes serving as a Senior Scientist and Group leader at PsychoGenics, Inc., a leader in preclinical neurobiology and provision of drug discovery and contract research services, based in New York. Dr. Liu initiated patent applications for innovations he had led to create, in particular, a repurposed compound for treating attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and a high-efficiency behavioral pharmacology assessment platform employing robotic automation, real-time video processing, and machine learning, both of which significantly contributed to the strong strategic IP assets that extended to support partners and clients. With the breath of expertise in the IP sector Dr. Liu was appointed In-House Patent Counsel and IP manager at Novo Nordisk A/S, a Danish Foundation and Holding Company of publicly listed companies that command leading roles in the biotech industry. Dr. Liu led Novo's IP operation for the Asia-Pacific region within its Intellectual Property & Partnering Organization with a notable success at establishing Novo's first IP operation in China. Dr. Liu later joined Dow Chemical Company as their Intellectual Capital Manager and Director for Dow's Intellectual Capital Management and External Technology for Greater China. Dr. Liu once again was instrumental at successfully building China based local IP capacities that served Dow Chemical's Asia-Pacific business and operation in China, especially for the emerging markets of photovoltaic, flat panel display, water treatment, and pharmaceutical excipients.
In parallel to his current position, Dr. Liu is closely associated with the China Investment Promotion Agency, a division of China's Ministry of Commerce that oversees investment activities of foreign companies in China and those of Chinese companies abroad. He is also an advisor to the China Torch Program which administrates China's 54 National Hi-Tech Parks under the Ministry of Science and Technology. In addition, Dr. Liu has recently assumed Deputy Director's capacity at the newly established World Innovation Institute (WII), a think-tank organization to advise the Chinese government on innovation related issues. Comprising of more than 100 members of mostly former senior officials of the central government and industry leaders, WII is posed to play a pivotal role in making critical connections in China to facilitate the advancement of innovation and hi-tech economy.
A native of Shenyang, Liaoning province, Dr. Liu studied medicine at China Medical University and Neurology & Neurosurgery (PhD) at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. Over the years he has received a number of scholarship and fellowship awards as well as the first authorship of both Science and Nature publications.

Ms. Linda Ji is a member of the Transactions & Securities, Private Equity & Venture Capital, and International Practice Groups, as well as the Emerging Technologies and Life Sciences Industry Teams of Foley & Lardner LLP. Ms. Ji focuses on corporate and securities laws, with over fifteen years' experience.
Ms. Ji has advised both privately and publicly held companies (ranging from start-ups to Fortune 100 companies) in a variety of corporate transactional and securities matters, including company setup, private equity and venture capital financings, mergers and acquisitions, private placement of securities, IPOs and secondary public offerings of securities, as well as public company reporting and securities law compliance.

About speakers
Gene K. Landy is a shareholder of the firm and Chair of Ruberto Israel & Weiner's Technology Business Group. His practice is concentrated on technology companies and information technology transactions. Gene is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard Law School.
Gene handles domestic and international transactions for high technology businesses, from start-ups to publicly traded companies. He represents companies in software, digital media, integrated circuits, telecommunications technology, IT hardware, Internet applications,
e-commerce, computer games, and other technology fields. Gene also works with investors in technology opportunities.
Gene is the author of a comprehensive practical layperson's guide to digital technology and media law, published by Elsevier in June 2008. The book, called The IT/Digital Legal Companion, is available on amazon.com. Gene Landy is also the author of a number of articles in the field of information technology law published in law journals and other publications.
Gene frequently lectures on legal topics and has spoken at the Computer Games, Software-as-a-Service University, e-Commerce Expo, and other industry trade shows, as well as the Massachusetts Technology Leadership Council, Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education, and the International Federation of Computer Law Associations. He has also given presentations on IT, software, telecommunications, and Internet law in England, Ireland and India.
Gary Bubb is a shareholder of Ruberto Israel & Weiner's and Chair of the Mergers & Acquisitions group. His clients are mainly privately held companies, which rely on Gary to handle general corporate matters and a broad range of transactions, including private offerings of securities, venture capital financings, mergers and acquisitions. Gary's general corporate and securities law practice is supplemented with fifteen years of tax law experience. Gary's tax practice includes work with pass-through entities, including S corporations, partnerships, limited liability entities and joint ventures. He concentrates on corporate tax matters, including reorganizations, mergers and acquisitions. He also has experience in administrative practice before federal and state tax agencies. Gary has a Master Degree in Taxation from Boston University.

About the Speaker
Jo Tango founded Kepha Partners. He has invested in the e-commerce, search engine, Internet ad network, wireless, supply chain software, storage, database, security, on-line payments and data center virtualization spaces.
He has been a founding or first institutional investor in AutoVirt, Azuki Systems, Bit9, ExaGrid, StreamBase Systems, Vertica Systems, Virtual Iron (acquired by Oracle) and VoltDB, getting involved nearly always at the company inception phase. Other investments include Ask Jeeves (Nasdaq: ASKJ), Digital Market (acquired by Agile Software), and NextCard (Nasdaq: NXCD).
Jo previously was at Highland Capital Partners for nearly 9 years, where he was a General Partner. He also spent five years with Bain & Company, where he was based in Singapore, Hong Kong and Boston, and focused on technology and start-up projects.
Jo attended Yale University (B.A., summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa) and Harvard Business School (M.B.A., Baker Scholar). He serves on the board of NECINA (New England Chinese Information and Network Association) and is very active with the MIT Deshpande Center. He has served as Co-Chair of his Harvard Business School class 5th, 10th and 15th reunions and is on the leadership team for his Yale 20th reunion.
Jo is passionate about start-ups and loves working with entrepreneurs who dare to strive. Jo and his family emigrated from Indonesia with a few suitcases, $1,500, and the hope for a better life.
