About SIG
About SIG
Special Interest Group (SIG) is a sub group under NECINA which has a more specific focus on their mission such as Optics, eBiz, Wireless, Healthcare and so on. SIG's events are open to all NECINA's members. If you are interested in joining any SIG, you have to join NECINA to become a member first. Check out our website to find more detail on SIG's program update.
NECINA Special Interest Groups (SIG) are focused in the following functional areas:
Network Infrastructure
The exponential growth of Internet and private IP network has changed the landscape of the both the public and private network infrastructure. Many new network applications are created, and many new network services will be created to support the needs of the applications. The changing demand from the applications and services will require new thinking on how the network is constructed, provisioned, and managed. The network infrastructure must be flexible, secure, and with quality of service (QoS) guarantees. Much of these problems remain to be solved.
Telecommunication
The rapid advance of optical fiber communication technologies has provided an abundance of bandwidth in the past several years. Recent attentions are shifted towards how to harness the raw bandwidth and bring benefits to the vast majority of consumers and businesses. In particular, broadband access and intelligent optical networks are two important areas in telecommunications.

"Internet of things (IOT)", referring to internet network of everyday objects, is hot, especially in China. Internet unlocks the potential of billions of computers, and IOT will unlock the power hidden among trillions of objects. In 2010, the total IOT revenue in China is $30 Billion. It is expected to grow up to $100 Billion in 2015.
IOT is more than RFID, sensors and cloud computing. What would be the enabling technologies there? What opportunities can you grab? We are fortunate to have Sohail Khan, CEO of SiGe Semiconductor (RF silicon- germanium leader, M2M and smart energy RF front end provider and one of the fastest growing semiconductor companies based in North America), and Robert LeFort, CEO of Ember Corporation (Wireless mesh networking technology leader, Zigbee SOC provider, an initiator of Zigbee Standard) to talk about what is going on and what trend they see.
Please come to share your thoughts and spark new ideas in our discussion.
Agenda:
6:30-7:00 Pizza and networking
7:00-7:30 "Wireless Connectivity Trends"
Sohail Khan, CEO of SiGe Semiconductor
7:30-7:45 Q&A for Sohail Khan
7:45-8:15 "Enabling the IOT with ZigBee Wireless Mesh Networking"
